MRR NewsMRR PASSES STRINGENT AIR TESTAn annual five-day PCB ambient air test conducted in September/October 2002 at the Material Resource Recovery (MRR) plant in Cornwall’s east end industrial park showed maximum emissions from the operation to be 1.4 per cent of the provincial standard. In announcing the results, plant manager Damian Rodriguez said “what this means is that MRR is 70 times lower than the provincial standards and fully complies with our Certificate of Approval.” The testing was conducted by Envirometrex Corporation of Toronto that collected the 24 hour period air samples and they were in turn analyzed by Philip Analytical Services. The ambient air PCB concentrations, according to the report submitted by Envirometrex, were tested for five days near the east and west boundary lines of the facility. The higher measurements upwind of the facility suggest “the possibility of other sources of PCBs in the Cornwall area” noted the report. Rodriguez credits these excellent readings to upgrades in the equipment and the expertise of the company’s staff in operating the incineration system.
